I hate it when those ATVs sneak upon you. Know any good open trails?

I know a few, but it is not for the faint at heart.

I often ride the old county road from coalton to the top of rich then out to Bills place for gas.

What are the laws, exactly, about ATV riding on public roads ?

No roads with yellow lines.

It all depends on what neck of the woods you live in. We ride all over where I live, and so doesn't the folks around me. Nobody wears helmits (I make my kids wear 'em) and usually you see two adults on one.

We crossed the county line into Barbour a couple weeks ago and passed the home of a law enforcement member. He just waved at us. I thought that was pretty cool that he never sent anyone after us. I was riding double, and my buddy was riding with his ol' lady and one of his kids was on with them.

the laws go that if you have a valid drivers license and wear a helmet yoiu can ride on secondary roads as long as you obey the traffic laws
you can even cross highways, interstates, or whatever as long as it is a 90 degree angle
i've been told you can ride less than a 55 mph speed limit if you have two wheels on the shoulder but i've never actually confirmed that one

you are right, you cannot ride on double lined roads.

Its a tricky law, you can ride double lined roads for as far as ten miles to move from trail to trail. But you cannot ride on federal highways no matter how many lines it has or does not have. Beverly and Millcreek for instance have double lined roads you can ride on and also one you can't. Route 129/250 runs thru both towns and are federal highways so they are off limits. But Files creek rd in Beverly is double lined and you can ride on it. Adolph road in Millcreek is also double lined and you can ride on it as well. You pretty much need to study a map and lay out your trip before you leave to stay on the right side of the law, unless you are like most and just go where you want to when you want to.

He's in the Navy. lol. Guess things will be different for riding when he gets back. They are in the process of passing laws to restrick ATV's from all paved roads. Its already passed according to the Inter mountain.
