Ghost Hunters& Returning to Weston'
Ever since the "Ghost Hunters" cast declared the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum haunted, it has scared up scores of visitors to the Weston landmark.
The Ghost Hunters, formally known as The Atlantic Paranormal Society, will be making a return visit to the former mental hospital this weekend, leading hundreds of fans through the eerie corridors in search of bumps in the night.
TAPS members will be conducting two five-hour ghost hunting expeditions beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday and again on Friday. The events have been sold out for months, said operations manager Rebecca Jordan-Gleason.
She is urging those on the hunt to bring cameras and whatever gear they believe is needed to draw out the spirits reportedly roaming the century-old hallways.
"We're expecting people here from all over the country," she said.
Jordan-Gleason said while details of a public event are still being ironed out, an auction of autographed memorabilia is scheduled to begin Saturday. Items can be found on e-Bay and will be there for seven days of bidding. All proceeds from the auction will be used in the restoration of the old hospital. For more information, call 269-5070.
The facility will be the benefit of a $104,000 state grant which will be used in repairing the clock tower section of the main building. The funding comes from the Historic Preservation Office of the Division of Culture and History. The Jordan family, who purchased the building from the state in August 2007, will match the grant dollar for dollar and with work from staff and volunteers. The work is expected to start in September.
